A pair of mourning doves have been spending a lot of time
on the transom ledge above the front door.
I open the door and go out. They fly away, but not too far.
Just out to the spruce in the yard.
After opening the door dozens of times
and pulling down all their twigs and grasses several times,
I think I've convinced them not to nest above the front door.

p.s. They've moved around to a basket
on top of the shelves on the side porch!
I'm glad they moved! Are they in the way on the side?
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately, not long after I took the last picture, a cat tried to get to them by climbing the recycling bins. The cat succeeded in pulling down the basket and tumbling the recycling bins with a loud racket. There was no evidence of eggs or baby birds and the doves did not return. That's why (along with cats using the garden for a litter box) I firmly believe that city cats should be indoor cats.
