Vernal Equinox

It's time to pet the pussy willows.

Salix chaenomeloides

Salix chaenomeloides

The Japanese species is bursting with stamens.

Salix discolor

The native species is a bit behind.

Snow-rain-wintery mix is forecast for the next four days.

Happy vernal equinox!

Crocus

When the crocus bloom, spring can't be far behind.

I love the contrast of the orange stamens and stigmas with the purple petals.

"I am Destructo Bun."

"You didn't really think a little bit of plastic tubing
was going to stop me from destroying this lamp cord, did you?"

What's happened at Heck Creek so far

We purchased the land in October, 2010--
42 acres of steep hillside in Madison County, NC.

Our big white oak and decrepit shed down by the creek

Summer 2011 we hired the father-son team of William and Edwin
to install a culvert so we could get across Heck Creek,
put in a driveway to the house site, excavate the house basement and
install a sewer system.

Edwin does the initial clearing of the driveway

Summer 2012 the well was dug,

Well-drilling truck

and the electric line run underground up the driveway.

So now all we need to do is build the house!
